Cleanliness a practice can evidence.
Cleanliness forms part of what a practice is scrutinised on. We work to the framework the standard sets out, and we keep the records that show it.
National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness 2025
Published by NHS England. It is the framework a GP practice is expected to work to and the one a CQC inspector recognises, which is what makes Correllatn's reporting legible to a practice rather than something taken on trust.
Correllatn works to this framework. It is not an accreditation and Correllatn is not certified, approved or registered under it, and is not CQC regulated.
Six steps, in order. Each one exists because the step before it produced something that has to be acted on.
- 01
Standard
Every area assigned a functional risk category, each with its own target score.
- 02
Scope
A written specification listing every element, its required standard after cleaning, and how often it is cleaned.
- 03
Controlled process
Colour-coded equipment, a safety data sheet and COSHH assessment held for every product, method statements and risk assessments.
- 04
Inspection
Technical audits scored element by element against the target for that category.
- 05
Documentation
Every failure recorded with a reason. Rectification signed off and retained.
- 06
Correction
Deadlines set by risk category, with a one hour route for anything touching safety or infection control.
Where our work stops
Clinical areas are in scope for routine environmental cleaning only. The boundary is written down, because an unwritten one gets crossed.
Floors, accessible environmental surfaces, door handles and contact points, windowsills and ledges, bins and liners, non-clinical fixtures.
Clinical or medical equipment, decontamination of any kind, anything sitting on a clinical trolley or treatment surface, body-fluid spills, outbreak and isolation cleaning.
Clean around, not under
A surface that cannot be reached because clinical equipment sits on it is left and reported. Nothing is improvised. Extending the boundary takes a written instruction and a separate assessment.
Not read, not moved, not discussed
Patient data, medical records and confidential information are not read, copied, photographed, moved unnecessarily or discussed by cleaning staff. It is in the induction, it is signed for, and it is the first thing raised at any standards conversation.
Checked before they start
Right to work verified, Basic DBS held, induction completed and signed, confidentiality undertaking in place. Employers liability insurance is held with Hiscox.
